FROZEN FEW NEWS LETTER
FROZEN FEW NEWSLETTER
October 17, 2011
First I would like to
thank Joe and Deb for hosting
the steak fry. I think
everyone had a good time. It was a beautiful autumn day. Hats off to the
chefs, you guys did a great job. The steaks were wonderful. The kids
could run around and not get into too much trouble. Elli was a good host
also. I think the kids really enjoyed playing video games in the camper.
Thanks again for having us.
We had a meeting with the Lions Club about using
their land for the grass drag. They would like to receive $1.00 per head
of paid admissions. They suggested that we go talk to Linn County
Planning & Development to make sure it is ok with them. So Al and I went
out to Westdale Mall and talked to a lady named Carolyn Wilson. Wow, quite
a few requirements that need to be fulfilled. We didn’t know we need to
have an event permit. The Grass Drags are a go for November 13th,
in Palo.
At the last meeting we had a big discussion about
changing the meeting nights to a different night of the week. We did an
informal show of hands to see what night works best and Saturday night is
still the night that works best for the majority at the meeting. We will
try to keep our meetings short and stay on topic.
We are looking for map ads sponsors. A single ad is
$35, which is about the size of a business card, and a double is $60. We
would like to get enough sponsors to pay for the map. So hit up your
favorite bars on the trail. Please turn these into Al by November 5,
2011. You could bring them to the membership meeting.
Grass Drags will be held in Palo this year on Karl
Haible’s property. This is where they had the lawn mower races. We would
like to prepare the track as far as mowing ahead of time; we need to mow
22 acres so any help with equipment or actual mowing would be
appreciated. We would like to do this on Saturday, October 29th.
The race track will be set up on Saturday November 12 at 9am, if you could
please come out and help with that. On Sunday we will need to be to the
race track by 6am to put on the finishing touches, the food tent will need
to be set up and the drag race lights. Come out and help, show your
support, even if you can’t stay the whole day. Questions or concerns
please contact Reggie Reicks @ 319-213-4086.
Snowmobile safety class will held November 19, 2011.
It will be held at the Linn County Fish and Game Club. The child needs to
be 12 to attend the class. The class is $10. It will begin at 8am and end
at 4pm. We will provide a light lunch. If you would like sign your child
up for the class contact Al at 362-2173 or send him an e-mail @
alredenbaugh@msn.com.
I believe the trail signs will be here after October
29th. I will send out an e-mail as soon as Ben lets me know
they are here. Please keep track of your time you spend working on
trails; we need to send it in with our grant paper work.

APRIL 2, 2011
At the last meeting
we held elections. The officers are:
President: Reggie
Riecks Vice President: Brian Atkinson
Secretary: Lorrie
Redenbaugh Treasurer: Nicole Carlson
Board Members:
Joe
Hiems-1year Nathan Johnson-1year
Louie
Zaspal-2year Bryan Zaspal-2year
Jamie Prull-2year
Jim Smith-1year
I would like to
welcome the new board members and thank the officers and all the club
members for all the work that they put into the last year.
The land owners
dinner was March 27th at the Horse Shoes Falls Lodge at Pinicon
Ridge Park. We had about 30 land owners present and about 20 club
members. It turned out very nice. I think the land owners really enjoyed
the food and the lodge. One lady requested a fire in the fire place. I
would like to send out a big thank you to Louie, Teresa and Missy for all
the work that they did in preparing the food and cup cakes. Everything
was delicious. Also thank you to everyone who helped clean up.
Today some of the
club members went out to Hawkeye Downs and cleaned up the track. Some of
the guys brought out skid loaders to get the mulch off the track. Some
went around the track and pick up any rocks or debris off the track. I
think it was left in good standings with the Cedar Valley Trail Riders.
When our guys left they were getting ready to do practice laps on the
track.
Part of the
agreement to use the track at Hawkeye Downs is to flag two of the CVTR
races. It was decided to do the April 23rd and May 14th
races. So please mark this on your calendars. We need at least 10
people, if we get more than we could take turns flagging and watching them
race. Jason said you have to be at least 16 years old to flag. They
would like us to be there at 3pm. I’m not sure but I think they last
until about 10pm. Then the CVTR will donate $400 back to our club for
each race that we flag. I will have a sign up sheet at the next meeting
or you could send me back an e-mail if you would like to flag a race.
The next meeting
will be at Pinicon Ridge Park. It will be held at the shelter that is by
the play ground. We are going to have a Winnie Roast. The club will
provide the Winnies, condiments and table service, so just bring what ever
you would like to share and your own beverage. We will meet at 5pm.
I would like say
thanks again to everyone for everything that you do, all of the behind the
scenes things that no one thinks about.
FROZEN FEW NEWS LETTER
WOW!!! What about that Sno-X Race. I heard all kinds of good things from
everyone. We had 1100 spectators and 62 racers. When this first came
about, I thought we would be lucky to have 200 to 300 spectators. I was
very surprised with the turnout. I want to thank everyone who
participated. It was great. I also think it brought this club closer
together. I met members that I have never seen before but have been club
members for a while. I wonder if Al will ride that vintage Ski Doo in the
fun run. We need more things to throw out to the crowd. Al built a
t-shirt launcher, so if we could get some t-shirt donations.
The
Fun Run is January 29. Starts at the Dam Bar at 9am and also ends at the
Dam Bar. Last sled in at 7pm. The bar will be selling the cards. The
cards are $10. You get 2 playing cards if you stop at the Melting Point
and take a picture of it with your cell phone.
The
next meeting will be February 5 at the Troy Store at 7pm. Jim Willey, the
ISSA vice president, will be there to talk about legislation and the
proposed registration fee increase.
See
ya on the trails
FROZEN FEW NEWS LETTER
Hope everyone had a fun
time at the Fun Run. We rode in a group of about 25 sleds. We came back
with one wet sled and rider, one injured rider, and two broken sleds. One
had to be put on a trailer and the other one was babied back to Coggon.
We had 53 cards sold. First best poker hand was $130, which went to
AJ Pirkl. Second place went to Zach Liercke, he won $85. Third
place went to Steve Jones and he won $50. That was my first real ride for
the season so I was pretty sore the next day.
We had Jim
Willey attend our last meeting. He is the vice president for the ISSA.
He talked about the possibility of raising snowmobile registration fees.
There are 30,798 registered sleds in the state of Iowa. They would like
to raise the fees to $30 per sled per year. In doing this there would be
more money that would go back into the snowmobile fund. The funds are
used for signage, insurance, trail development, fuel and repairs for the
groomers, groomer maintaince, groomer purchases, and the DNR program and
law enforcement. There are 50 groomers across the state of Iowa. Right
now Iowa spends $92 a mile on trails. If the registration is raised by
$15 we will have $185 to spend per mile of trail. This also would be more
money we could get on our grant requests. They are also trying to get gas
tax money. Snowmobiles shouldn’t have to pay gas tax because they don’t
really ride on the roads. On average, one snowmobile uses 60 gallons of
gas per year. If this gets passed we could gain $331,200 to be put back
into the snowmobile program. He also said we need to be more prudent on
our sign order. We need to take care of our signs, get them out of the
fields and ditches by April 1st.
The alliance
hosted a groomer class at Quality Excavating in Marion. We had attendance
from 6 clubs. We have 30 new groomer operators, 9 from the Frozen Few.
Chris Willey taught the class, it lasted about 4 hours. The alliance
provided food and beverages. Special thanks to Joe Kruser for letting us
hold the class at his business. He was very kind in providing us with
tables and chairs.
We will need
help with the food sale on March 5. The sale will be held at Hoge’s Then
& Now Auction House, 5675 N Highway 13, Coggon. Louie would like us to be
there at 8 am for set up. Last year I think we were done by 2pm, this
included cleaning up. If you can’t stay the whole time, just come out for
as long as you can.
The
landowner’s dinner will be held March 27 at Pinicon Ridge Park at the Wood
Pecker Lodge. I’m not sure about the time yet I think it will start at
noon, so mark your calendars. I will be sending out rsvp’s after the
March meeting. Please send those back asap so we can get food ordered.
One last
thing, at the next meeting, which is March 5th at Pappy’s at
7pm, we will be holding elections. We need 3 new board members. If you
are interested let someone know so they can nominate you. Being a board
member means you might get a phone call to vote on something or you might
have to attend an extra meeting or come to the meetings a little early to
discuss an issue. It is one way to be a little more involved, without a
lot of responsibility.
FROZEN FEW NEWS LETTER
DECEMBER 21,2010
This will be a short news letter, we really did not have a meeting at the
Christmas Party. The only thing that was talked about was changing the
date of the Christmas Party to the following weekend to accommodate the
hunters. So the Christmas Party for next year will be on December 10, 2011
at the Woodpecker Lodge in Pinicon Ridge Park. This is the one by the
sledding hill.
Sno-X has been meeting just about every week. The Flyers will be finalized
this week and put on the web site. The track is all done we are just
waiting for snow. Scott Banes went to the City of Cedar Rapids and asked
them if they would dump all of their snow at Hawkeye Downs, so we should
have this covered. So if you are out in the area sometime drive by and
check it out. We are also going to have pre-registration on the web site,
hopefully this will give us a little bit of an idea of how many people to
expect.
Our next meeting will be on December 30th at Pappies in Center Point at
7pm. I would like to invite everyone to attend. Also we are going to start
calling people to figure out when they are available to help, so keep that
in mind. Hopefully at the Next club meeting we will have the T-shirt that
we have been working on to show so the club can decide how many we should
purchase and what we should sell them for. The Sno-X race is January 22nd
and February 19th. Our web site address is frozenfewsnowmobileclub.com.
There is also a fun run being put together for January 29, it will begin
and end at The Dam Bar in Troy Mills. Starting time will be at 9am. More
info to follow. There also has been talk of a Frost Buster Drag Race in
early spring late winter. The bean drag was such a success so some have
been thinking why not.
I also just wanted to give everyone an FYI about the utility poles on hwy
13. Be careful don’t hit them. Al called Alliant and they told him they
weren’t theirs so now he is waiting for a call from REC. Hopefully they
will do something about this so we don’t have to close the trail.
The next meeting will be at Amvets in Central City on January 7th at 7pm.
Their address is 15 4th St, Central City. At this meeting we are going to
have a chili dump. Just bring as much chili as your family will eat and we
will mix it all together, sounds gross but it really is good. Would you
please bring your own table service and an appetizer or dessert to share,
the meeting will begin at 7 pm on January 7th. If any one needs directions
just give me a call 319-362-2173.
Membership dues are due, this will be the last newsletter sent to those
who still owe dues.
Hope everyone has a blessed and safe holiday season. See ya on the trails.
FROZEN FEW NEWSLETTER
The month of November has went by so quickly, the whether has changed from
one extreme to another. The membership drive at JS Power Sports went
pretty good. It was a lot of fun visiting with people about snowmobiling.
We also got a few kids signed up for the snowmobile safety class. Learned
a few things about the Sled Neck guys and got Slednecks 13.
We also decided to go ahead with the Sno-X race. Al and I turned in the
contract on Wednesday, November 10. The first Sno-X race will be held on
January 22, 2011 and a second race on February 19, 2011. It will be held
at Hawkeye Downs at the Cedar Valley Trail Riders track. We have some
sponsors already but if you know of someone who is interested contact
Reggie or Nate and they will get them the info. We are hoping this will be
a huge success and we can do it again next year.
The next membership meeting will be at the Christmas Party. It will be
held at Horseshoe Fall Lodge at Pinicon Ridge Park, in Central City on
December 4th, 2010. It will be cater by Billy Bob’s Chicken Shack, so if
you would bring a dessert or appetizer to share and your own beverage. We
would also like everyone to bring a can food or non perishable food for
donation to a needy family. Happy hour will begin at 5pm and dinner at
6pm. There will also be a special visit from Santa. Please RSVP by
telephone or e-mail, 319-362-2173 or alredenbaugh@msn.com by November 27,
please let me know the ages of the kids that are going to attend.
We will be hosting a snowmobile safety class on December 2nd and 3rd. The
class will be held from 5 to 9 pm. It will be at the North Linn Fish and
Game Club. The child has to be 12 by December 3rd. The cost is $5 for the
certificate. If anyone is interested please call Al or Lorrie @
319-362-2173 to register for the class. If anyone would be interested in
baking some cookies or bars for the class just let me know. Thanks in
advance.

· Hope everyone had a fun and safe snowmobile season. Just a reminder we
need to get the signs picked up by April 1st. We will be storing them in
the Melting Point.
We had elections at the last meeting. The new officers will take office
after the Landowners dinner. The new officers are:
President-Reggie Reicks
Vice President-Brian Atkinson
Secretary-Lorrie Redenbaugh
Treasurer-Nicole Carlson
Board Members-Louie Zaspal, Nathan Johnson, Craig Atkinson,
Jim Smith, and Joe Hiems
Hope to see everyone at the landowners dinner. This is time for use to
show our appreciation to our land owners for letting us have trails on
their land. The club will provide sodas but not beer so if any one wants
alcohol they need to bring their own and maybe extra to share with a land
owner. Please get your RSVP’S back to Teresa so she knows how much food to
make. You can call her at 319-350-2654 or you can e-mail her at
Waterluvr63@yahoo.com or just mail back your card.

Hope everyone is enjoying the weather. Went for a ride on Valentines Day,
it was just beautiful. What more could a girl ask for, actually I was kind
of snowmobile out, because we went the week before to Clear Lake, but I’m
glad I went. The trails were good, some of them were even groomed and it
was fairly warm, not a lot of wind.
On February 27th at 4 pm we are going to have a weenie roast and chili at
the Melting Point. Should be a good time. Thought we could have a club
ride, if we still have snow. Let’s meet at the Melting Point at 11am and
we’ll support some of our map sponsors. Then we can meet back at the
Melting Point at 4pm. If you can’t make it for the ride please come and
join us later for the bond fire. If everyone could bring a snack to share
and your own drink, the club will provide the weenies and chili. If you
have to trailer your sleds you can unload at the park in Central City-the
Melting Point is just on the back side of the park, or you could unload on
the back side of the park because it is on a dead end road. Call us if you
have any questions 319-362-2173.
The next meeting will be on March 6th at 7pm at the Troy Store in Troy
Mills. Please plan on attending. This is an important meeting because we
will be electing new officers and board members

Hope everyone had a good time at the poker run. Looked like we had quite a
few partakers. Sounds like we also have some guys participating in the
snow cross races on Saturday. Al is hauling a few of the sleds. Im glad we
have something for the younger riders.
Just wanted to remind everyone that we have elections coming up in March,
so please plan to attend the March meeting. Also be thinking of who you
want to nominate for officers. All of the offices, president, vice
president, treasurer, and secretary need to be filled. We also need to
elect 2 or 3 board members.
The next meeting will be held at Racks in Coggon at 7pm.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everybody!! Hope everyone
had a good Christmas and a safe New Year. I just wanted to let everyone
know Al and Ben went to Maynard and picked up a new to us groomer. This
belonged to the Trail Blazers in region 3. They groomed for a while on
Sunday. So if everyone could get out there and make sure their parts of
the trails are marked.
I hope everyone had a good time at the Christmas party. The food was good,
and it was fun watching the kids sit on Santas lap, I know he had as much
fun as they did, if not more. I also thought it was nice having the band
there. The high lite of the night was when Santa was dancing with the kids
and his Santa pants fell down, but he did have jeans on underneath. I will
get the pictures off my camera to have at the next meeting.
Could everyone please bring where you marked trails at and the time spent
on this, for the next meeting. So we can start keeping track of this. See
ya on the trails!!!!!!

A big welcome to all the new members.
As of right now we have 51 memberships. WOW!!! I think that is
just great. It will be nice to hear some new ideas. One thing
I think maybe we should seriously think about is having our meetings on a
different night, especially if we could get more of the new members to
attend. Our next meeting will be held at Pappy’s in Center Point on
November7th, at 7pm. Bill will be bring the new club t-shirts
to the meeting and Nathan should have the new club stickers.
Just a few reminders: The 36 Annual ISSA
Convention will be November 13-15, 2009 in Waterloo at the Five Sullivan
Brothers Convention Center. I talked to Dave Carmichael and he
promises to have a good show. He told me they are going to change it
up a little bit at the show. There is more information in your Iowa
Snowmobiler-for the new members that haven’t got a magazine yet I will
bring mine so you are able to check it out. Also I just want to
remind everyone that snowmobile registration is coming up. You need
to get your sled registered before December 31, 2009 to avoid a penalty.
I don’t think they send out reminders cards any more. Lastly club
dues are due. $30 for the year which includes your ISSA membership.
Dues need to be paid at the November 7th meeting if you haven’t done so
already.
We will be offering a youth snowmobile
safety class on November 7th. The class will be held at the North
Linn Fish and Game club in Central City from 8am to 5pm. Any youth
the age of 12 to 17 need to have a safety certificate to ride on a
sled by them self on the trails, legally. Any one is welcome to
attend member or not for more info or to sign up for the class
contact Al at 362-2173.
Prior news letter:
Last months newsletter:
The 2009-2010 snowmobile season could prove to be an exciting year. With
the alliance between the Frozen Few and Snow Chasers we are anxiously
awaiting a new (to us) groomer . With only the two clubs in the alliance,
we will have equal use of the groomer and should be able to keep the
trails groomed.
I would like to welcome all the new members and I would like to encourage
all current members to come to the next meeting so you are able to welcome
the new members and talk snowmobiling.
For as long as I have been in the club Louie has rode that 2-up sled, I’m
happy to say Louie finally bought a different sled. Al and Louie went on
Tuesday night and looked at the sled and he bought it.. I think you will
like the new sled it will be a lot easier to ride and you will be able to
control it better. I used to ride on that same 2up sled like Louie’s, it
was great when our daughter was little but now she rides by herself—when
she goes.
The next meeting will be at Bill and Pam Jacobs cabin, on October 3 at
5pm. We will be having a weenie roast, the club will provide the hot dogs
and condiments. If everyone would bring something to share and your own
drinks and table service. I think we will probably have the meeting first
and follow up with the weenie roast. Jacob’s cabin is located at Paris
Road along the river in Central City. From Hwy 13 turn west on Paris Rd to
just before the river turn south on Left Banks Rd. Last Cabin on the
right. If your coming from Troy mills or Alburnett turn East onto Paris Rd
and go across the river turn south on Left Banks Rd. Last Cabin on the
right. If you have any questions call AL or Lorrie at 362-2173. Hope to
see you Saturday.
